Getting Happy Starts with Getting Balanced
A Shift In AttitudeObstacles are a fact of life. It is how we handle them that ultimately shape our experiences in life. While we may not recognize it at the time, ..... You can kick-start yourself towards new levels of happiness through a seven-step program that’s as easy as ABC. All you need to remember are these seven human intelligences: the spiritual, emotional, physical, creative, intellectual, vocational and material. Any thoughts or actions on a daily basis will fall into one of these categories. If you are not in a happy state, chances are you are out of balance and closer reflection will probably identify that one or more of these intelligences has received an unhealthy level of attention to the detriment of the others, usually over an extended period of time. For instance, the home duties spouse whose life revolves around the children and domestic management. Let’s define them as a person who primarily addresses elements of the emotional intelligence and perhaps a little of the creative and the material. Over time our spouse is likely to start wondering where their original identity went. This pressure can build into an emotional meltdown. What is the issue here? The answer is lack of balance. Our spouse has been neglecting the physical intelligence that includes fitness, grooming, nutrition, hydration, relaxation, sleep and meditation. That’s just for a start – the next step is to assess the deficiencies of attention in the other intelligences. A great way to build balance into your life is to deliberately welcome it in. I recommend a daily practice journal in which you record your short-term and long-term goals against each of the seven intelligences. I chunk mine from a few years out, down to what I’m going to achieve in each area in the next 24 hours. I then record my achievements and on a monthly basis assess how I feel I’m scoring out of 10 for each intelligence. I can report an increased sense of well-being is experienced right from day one. Let me give you some examples of my daily practices: Spiritual. I make sure that I read texts that pertain to my chosen belief system and I reflect on those. I try to put them into action. I meditate for five minutes. Emotional. I remind myself to laugh, love and to “engage”. I look at something from nature and focus on it until I can marvel at the miracle of it. I try to lighten up. Physical: I do some yoga or other exercise. I make sure I eat well and drink water. I have a great night’s sleep. Creative. I do some writing or take time out to do some power thinking where I try to come up with new ideas. Intellectual. I do an algebra problem – never could do them when I was at school.
Are You Faking It?I am beginning to wonder how many people are faking it' How many if given the chance would ..... Vocational. I do some marketing of my services and research how I can improve what I do. Material. I might balance my books, fine-tune a budget. Perhaps research a product I want to buy. I think you can safely infer that the practices don’t really take up much time, but they give me an all-over psychological and physiological work-out. I can definitely attest to an improved state of mind and, yes, happiness. Someone who regularly addresses their seven intelligences becomes balanced and has their life in perspective. Start your program today, you won’t look back.
